Areas of Practice

20th Century / Classic Photography

Including the most recognizable and iconic images of the medium, the work made during the 20th century or “classic” photography is the most common type of photography that we work with. Negative dates, prints dates, editions (or lack thereof), signatures, stamps and inscriptions all come into play when considering value. Even among works of a single artist, or prints of a single image, the values can vary dramatically. Fortunately, we have many years of experience working with 20th century photography and can confidently appraise any example that you might have in your collection.

Contemporary Photography

Including photographs created approximately from the mid-1990s to the present day, contemporary photography possesses numerous distinctive qualities that demand specific consideration and expertise. These qualities may encompass new mediums and condition issues associated with them. Furthermore, the market for contemporary photography often operates independently from classical photography, with sales frequently occurring within the realm of contemporary art rather than within the field of photography itself.

“Photography's potential lies in challenging our habitual ways of seeing.”

– John Szarkowski
